Rhymes With Orange Quilt : A Work In Progress

I've been working on this "Rhymes With Orange" quilt for over a year and haven't documented much this beaut. But the time has come... maybe it'll inspire me to finish this puppy!
I wanted lots of color contrast & pattern contrast with lots of pops of black & white polka dots.
This is my first improvisational quilt and I've learned a ton along the way. I can't wait to see it all complete. The most challenging part is getting the weird measurements correct. This baby is FAR from perfect, making it a very folksy work of art.
I used an equal amount of new & vintage fabrics in the design of this and hope to finish it off with a bang! Orange is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors.

Custom Baby Blanket

Hey Folks! I gotta show off my latest completed project. A few months back, my Husband's cousin had asked me to make a quilt for her young son with the clothing from his first year. We both decided on a bright fun boys quilt and here is what I came up with.  I had too much fun picking out bright contrasting patterns to offset the designs of the clothing I used in the inner squares pictured above.
I made it as goofy & kittywampus as possible for a fun children's quilt.
I have to admit, quilting with stretchy t-shirt material is certainly challenging but a great way to upcycle clothing. I love the results!
For the backing of the quilt I used a thrifted sheet cleaned and pressed with a bright orange binding.
Here's a shot of my sewing cave where the action happens. You can see the quilt top almost complete.
It turned out wonderful and I hope they can cherish it for years to come!

Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows.

I was recently cruising around my Instagram and came across the glorious feed of Area 52 Vintage. This fabulous duo of Annette Harper & Melina Harper run a series of shops both brick and mortar as well as online. They gather the goods and resell at The Orange Circle Antique Mall as well as their Etsy Shop. I was inspired from the yellow tissue box on the left to make a vintage pattern.

Gimme Gimmies : Patchwork Goodies

Hello! Every week I am on the hunt for inspiration. A few days a week I scan Etsy to find some cool vintage crafts, fabrics, knick-knacks, bric-a-brac.. and what have you. I feel it keeps me inspired to make stuff and seems healthier than thrifting. I hoard photos instead of actual things.. except fabric. I am a fabric junkie and i think spotting a chunk of cute vintage fabric in a thrift shop or garage sale it my #1 pleasure in life. Complete eye candy! Here are a few goodies I've recently found...
In Stitches Patchwork Sewing Kit from Brass Rabbit Vintage.
1970's Vintage Calico Fabric from Scarletts Vault
Handmade Vibrant Patchwork Quilt Top from Stories Untitled.
Multicolored Patchwork Vintage Terrycloth Apron from Pretty Little Thrifts
Vintage Pink Patchwork Fabric from Rhaevon Vintage Fabric

Anniversary in MKE

With our Anniversary falling on a Tuesday, we decided to make a special little trip last Sunday to MKE. We visited Johnny's ole neighborhood and hopped around a few places on Brady Street. We had a great time stopping at a few great places like The Hi Hat Lounge/The Garage & The Nomad
We had a few IPAs and walked a little around the city. We snacked on Reuben Rolls at Hooligans and headed to the historic and gorgeous Oriental Theater for our main attraction. We saw "Where To Invade Next" with an extremely over sized soda & popcorn. It was nearly impossible to capture the beauty of the theater with my camera, but the floor in the bathroom was so cute! We headed home in time to get the boys to bed and get ready for Monday. It was a great date and a memorable occasion. It felt so great to be in the city again.

Spring Blossom

I've caught a spring bug! Although we have a few more months of winter in Wisconsin, I'm ready for color again! The weather in the Midwest is similar to the weather in Scandinavian countries and I am finally understanding why colorful bright flowers are so popular in their design.
I love the way this pattern turned out!
